Here’s the full reveal for a commission titled “Familiar Voices Betwixt Dreams And Reality”. This one was created digitally and printed out as a 24”x30” archival giclée print on 90 lb cold press paper. Jessa and Joe , who have bought work of mine in the past, asked me to create a fantasy theme of my choosing that included them and their 5 pets. We came to the conclusion that it would be best to depict the pets personalities and some physical traits in the fantasy creatures I create instead of showing them as dogs or cats. One of Jessa’s favorite watercolor and ink pieces of mine is a magical forest scene titled “the Alliance Came Unlooked For” so I decided to make the art a forest scene with Jessa in a hood like the enchantress in “Alliance”. I’ve been wanting to paint another centaur for awhile now and thought Joe would look great as one and tie everything together nicely.
When it came to titling the piece we worked together on coming up with a title that told the story as well as being personal to them and so “Familiar Voices Betwixt Dreams And Reality” was born!
While nearing the final lap for completing the painting I ran into a major setback that almost gave me a heart attack! The Photoshop file for this was massive with countless layers and 500dpi. It was 4.5 gigs closed and much larger when opened. This caused my Mac to freak and not be able to save any files including that one. I had to call Apple and we ended up running a bunch of diagnostics and ended up reinstalling the OS Catalina which did the trick and got everything back to normal. Whew!

I had such a fun and amazing creative journey with this one (minus the tech meltdown) and am grateful and honored to have been able to create something so personal for them. Thanx so much Jessa and Joe!
I have been so busy with illustration assignments lately, that I haven’t had time to mention that I have a sale going on in my shop until Sep. 9th but since I didn’t promote it soon enough, I’m thinking about extending it until the end of the month. Right now you can get my signed premium prints and select original watercolor & ink paintings on sale like the little guy shown here. Go to My store in the menu and check them out.
When it comes to originals…once their gone…well you know. :-)

Last Week I said good bye to one of my flagship pieces, "Discovering Truth In Ancient Fables" a watercolor and ink piece that was created in 2014 when I first started this fantasy art journey. It is on my business cards and other marketing materials and was my first piece to be recognized by a fantasy art awards book. It was included in the Spectrum volume 22 book. It was a piece I've never offered for sale and was reluctant to part with, along with a few others, for sentimental reasons. A collector of my work who now owns several of my original paintings, asked a couple months ago if it was available and I replied that I was almost ready to let go but just give me a little more time and to touch base every now and then. Well, persistence works, I finally was ready to let it go because I know it will be going to an awesome home and share the same space as it's siblings where it will be loved very much.
It's always bittersweet to part with a piece that's close to the heart because no matter how accurate a print is...it never quite matches up to an original. That's why they are originals. I do get visitation rights though. :-)
I do have this as prints in my shop, just click HERE to seeto check it out.
Stay safe…stay scareful! 😊😷
